Delete your data
You can delete your Heirloom account and everything in it yourself, from inside the app. Here is exactly how, and exactly what happens.
1. Delete your account in the app
This is the fastest route and needs nothing from us.
- Open Heirloom and go to the Profile tab.
- Open Settings → Account.
- Choose Delete account.
- Confirm. You will be asked to re-enter your password, because this cannot be undone.
Your account is deactivated immediately and you are signed out on every device. Erasure from our systems completes within 30 days.
2. Take a copy first
Deletion is permanent, and we cannot restore an account afterwards. Before you delete, save anything you want to keep: Settings → Downloads lets you save the memories you have added to your device.
3. Request deletion by email
If you cannot get into the app — a lost device, a sign-in you cannot complete — write to privacy@heirloom.setrick.com from the email address on the account, with the subject “Account deletion request”.
We will verify that the request comes from the account holder before acting on it — this protects you from someone else deleting your memories — then confirm by email once deletion is complete. We respond within 30 days, and usually far sooner.
4. What is deleted
- Your account record: name, email address, phone number, password hash.
- Your profile photo and bio.
- Your entire private Vault, including its passcode hash and every file in it.
- Photos, videos and audio files you uploaded, from our object storage.
- Your memberships in families, journeys and shared vaults.
- Private nicknames you gave to other people.
- Your notification preferences and push subscription.
- Your authentication tokens and active sessions.
- Your read/unread state and reaction history.
5. What does not disappear, and why
Being straight about this matters more than a clean-sounding promise.
| What | Why it remains | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Content you contributed to a shared journey | It is part of a story that belongs to the other members too. Removing it would take memories away from people who did nothing. Delete individual items before deleting your account if you want them gone. | Until the journey’s owner or members delete it |
| Comments you left on other people’s memories | They are shown as from a removed member, detached from your account | Until deleted by that content’s owner |
| Encrypted backups | Backups are taken on a rolling schedule and cannot be edited in place without compromising their integrity | Purged within 30 days |
| Security and abuse logs | Needed to investigate fraud and abuse, and to defend legal claims. Not linked to your content. | Up to 12 months |
| Records the law requires us to keep | Statutory obligation — for example tax or accounting records for any payment | For the period the relevant law requires |
We cannot recover copies that other members of a journey downloaded to their own devices before you deleted anything. No service can.
6. Deleting less than everything
You do not have to delete the whole account to remove something:
- A single memory — open it and use the ••• menu.
- A journey — open its settings and delete it. This removes it for everyone in it.
- Vault contents — unlock the Vault and delete the items.
- Leave a family — from your Profile. Your account survives; you simply stop being in that family.
- A shared vault item — request deletion in the vault. More than one member must agree, by design.
7. Other privacy rights
Deletion is one of several rights you have. Access, correction, portability, restriction and objection are described in the Privacy Policy. We honour these requests wherever you live, not only where the law compels us to.
