Most places your family photographs end up are built to be seen by strangers, mined for advertising, or quietly reorganised by a recommendation engine. Heirloom is built for the opposite: a small circle of people, a story with an order, and nothing else looking in.
No ads
We do not sell advertising, so there is nothing to gain from studying what is in your photographs.
No public feed
There is no profile to find, no follower count, and no way for someone outside your family to reach in.

Journeys, not feeds
A journey is one story with a beginning — a first year, a summer, a grandparent’s voice. Memories land on a winding map in the order they happened, not in the order an algorithm prefers.
Only the people you pick
Every journey is visible to the people chosen when it was created, and nobody else. No public profiles, no discovery, no suggested friends. You can change who is in it at any time.
Photos, video and voice
Capture inside the app or add what is already on your phone. Record a voice note when a photograph would not have said it — the way someone tells a story is part of the story.
A vault only you open
The Vault has its own passcode, separate from your account password, and locks itself the moment you leave the app. Nothing in it is ever visible to a family.
Shared vaults, shared keys
For the documents and photographs a family holds together. Each member picks their own passcode, and deleting something takes more than one person agreeing to it.
Memories as gifts
Pick a journey, pick a person, pick a date. It keeps collecting right up until the moment it opens — a living gift rather than a snapshot of one afternoon.
Works without a signal
Capture on a plane, in a basement, at a campsite. Everything queues on the device and uploads itself when you are back on a connection.
Names that are yours
Call your mother “Mum” even if everyone else in the family calls her by her first name. A rename is private to you; everyone else keeps seeing the name she chose.
Privacy
Two locks, and the second one is yours alone.
Your account password gets you into Heirloom. The Vault has a second passcode that is never used for anything else, cannot be recovered by support, and relocks the moment the app goes to the background. Unlock it with Face ID or a fingerprint if you would rather not type it.
- Everything in transit is encrypted over HTTPS, and media is stored in private object storage that is never publicly listable.
- A wrong Vault passcode never counts toward locking you out of your account — the two are throttled separately.
- Changing your password ends every other session immediately, on every device.
- Deleting a shared vault item takes agreement from more than one member, so nothing disappears on one person’s bad day.
